The original Heberer Bros. - Roger, Norman, and BillWho We Are:

(From Sunday Post, Home Building and Remodeling Expo)This is a second generation business. It was officially founded in 1969 by brothers Roger, Norm and Bill Heberer. All had good jobs with other companies. In 1959, the brothers worked together to build Roger's new home, even the foundation. After that, they began doing home improvement jobs, mostly siding, in their spare time. "They grew up on a farm," said Mike Heberer. "They were all good with their hands and they helped each other out." When Norm, Bill and Roger conceived the idea of starting their own company, the hardest part was convincing their wives, recalled Mike. The brothers went ahead with their plans, but held on to their existing jobs until about 1976, when the new company was fairly well established. They had learned all aspects of home construction by then, and were securing contracts. Within the next few years, they built over a dozen homes a year. The brothers began working out of their homes and a station wagon. They utilized Norm's barn, and when they were able to buy a pickup truck, it was bright orange - unusual for the time. As the business grew, and more trucks were bought, the brothers continued to have them painted the now familiar Heberer orange.

Randy, Tim and Mike Heberer are Norm's sons. Rick Heberer is Bill's son. They all began working as fetch and carry crew at a young age, and regularly during their high school years. The four went on to higher education institutions: Randy and Rick to technical school and Tim and Mike went to college. All continued to work for the family business during those years, and went back full time after graduating. "It was pretty much always accepted that we would stay in the business," said Tim. They officially became owners in 1995. "They (Roger, Bill and Norm) all still take an interest in the business of course, and are just about our best salesmen," said Tim. "They know everybody," laughed Mike.

Today, Heberer Bros. specializes in windows, siding and doors. They will build a complete home, but more often do additions or remodels. Why?  "During the building boom," explained Tim, "there were more and more people coming into the field." "We all decided we didn't need the stress from increased competition and we opted to specialize," said Mike. "We can be in and out of a job more quickly, we move around more, do more estimating, accept more contracts and have a change of scenery." Their list of services is actually quite diverse, and the men, along with three employees, are kept pretty busy. The do all kinds of work, garage doors, etc. It seems that when they had the chance, the men chose wisely, setting themselves up to be fairly recession-proof. In today's tight economy, people are frequently choosing to invest in their existing homes, and Heberer Bros. has work, even doing window and door replacement.
